First birthdays are truly an exciting and happy baby milestone! Find first birthday party tips and tricks below to help you guide you on prepping your baby’s first birthday party efficiently and creatively.
1. PICK A THEME
This could be something your baby might be interested in. For example, Sesame Street, animals, their favorite cartoon, or a character from a movie they admire. If you’re not into themes, you can do a simple color scheme. Pinterest is a great way to gather ideas!
Tip: Another creative way to theme your baby’s first birthday is through cultural celerations like the one in the photo below. “”Dol” or “Doljanchi” is a Korean tradition that celebrates the first birthday of a baby. This ceremony blesses the child with a prosperous future and has great significance in Korea.
2. SCHEDULE A PHOTO SESSION
It’s important to capture some professional images of your baby before their first birthday party. After all, these special moments go by so fast and sometimes our phone just don’t quite do it!
Any images taken at a photo session can be used to create formal announcements, or to simply share on social media, such as Facebook or Instagram! Friends and family love seeing photos of your litte one as it brings them happiness!
Tip: If you have a full -service photographer (like myself) your photographer will assist you with ordering portraits for your home. Do you want some to frame? Do you want to hang a collage of images in your family room? Do you want some images in their bedroom? I personally, will style the entire session based on where you will hang the images in your home so they will flow nicely with your home decor!

3. SEND INVITES
Like I said earlier, you can send customized invites to tie your birthday celebration together. Invites can be a fun and creative way to get the excitement going! For some invite inspiration, click here.
4. PLAN THE MENU
Don’t forget the food! A fun way to bring forth more excitement to the party is through foods that match your theme. For example, let’s say you’re doing a baseball themes birthday party. It would be extra cute to incorporate foods like hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts, and even have your baker incorporate the theme for the cake!

5. CHOOSE YOUR DECORATIONS
This is the really fun part! Get creative and find decorations that match the theme and personality of your baby! I recommend Party City for decorations but any good ole’ party store would do the trick!

Remember: It’s completely normal to feel a little stressed while you plan your baby’s first birthday party. All you need to truly keep in mind is that your only priority on that day should be your baby.
Do not stress over little things that may not go as you had planned. Your guests know that your baby is the birthday star, so they will surely go out of their way to do everything they can to make sure their first birthday party is a successful celebration. Oh, and most importantly remember to have lots of fun! These memories are so precious.
